Solo mother: desire to have children without a partner

Christine is a solo mother in a co-parenting relationship. When her desire to have children arose, she was in a long-term partnership that was nevertheless coming to an end. Finding a suitable partnership again, building it up and making it sustainable in order to give a child a home seemed too long to her. The desire to have a child was far too present.

This gave her the idea that it should be possible to have a child with someone with whom she was not in a romantic relationship. And then came Gianni. Gianni is gay and wanted to become a father.

It was only when I was single again that it occurred to me that I could have a child without a partnership.
Christine (40 years)

Christine did not want to raise her child alone because she wanted another important point of reference for her child and wanted him to know his roots. Today, she says of her motherhood that having an active father involved in her upbringing, with whom she is not in a romantic relationship, has many advantages for her. “I don’t think many mothers have as much freedom as I do, besides having my own family,” Christine says. “Looking back, I can say that solo motherhood in a co-parenting arrangement is the ideal family form for me.”
